The Need is NOW: help us reach our goal!
Saugerties Animal Shelter is in desperate need of a new shelter building! Our current space was originally an equipment garage for the local transfer station but was repurposed to house stray animals about 40 years ago. Ever since then, we have been operating on the bare minimum of resources. Even with renovations and the best efforts of shelter staff, it has become quite clear that the only solution is a new building. Soon, there will be new regulations from the Department of Agriculture and Markets, and our current shelter will just not meet the new standards without a new facility.
The Saugerties Animal Shelter provides a safe, loving and secure place for the community animals, as well as help for our community people. Our Pet Food Pantry is open to anyone in need. The shelter provides volunteer and community service opportunities as well as educational classes. We have served over 400 pets this past year and expect that number to grow as we do.
